Microsoft Power Platform Certification Roadmap 2026: Which Certification Should You Choose?
Microsoft Power Platform certifications have changed significantly in 2026.
New certifications focused on AI, Copilot and AI agents have been introduced, while several older Power Platform certifications have retired.
If you’re planning a career in Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, Power BI, Copilot or AI agents, it can be difficult to know where to start.
This guide explains the Microsoft Power Platform Certification Roadmap 2026 and helps you choose the certification that best matches your career goal.
Important: A recommended learning path is not the same as a formal prerequisite. In the current roadmap, AB-100 is the certification with a formal prerequisite. PL-900 is recommended for beginners, but it is not mandatory before most other certifications.

Power Platform Certification Roadmap 2026

AB-100 has a formal prerequisiteThis is the most important prerequisite in the roadmap. Microsoft requires you to hold a qualifying Associate certification before the AB-100 certification can be awarded. The qualifying list includes certifications such as PL-400, AB-410 and AB-620, along with several Dynamics 365 and Azure AI certifications.One important point:AB-730 and AB-731 do not qualify as prerequisites for AB-100.Because Microsoft can update the qualifying list, check the current AB-100 certification page before planning your path.What Happened to the Older Power Platform Certifications?

Microsoft Certification Exam Basics
A few general exam rules are useful to know.Passing scoreMicrosoft certification exams generally use a scaled score, with a passing score of 700 out of 1000. This does not mean that you simply need to answer 70% of questions correctly.RetakesThe current policy includes:- 24-hour waiting period after the first failed attempt
- 14-day waiting period between subsequent attempts
- Maximum of five attempts within a 12-month period
